Leeks came to us from the Middle East. The Assyrians, Chinese and Egyptians ate them many years before we did.
Did you know that the leek is one of the symbols of Wales? It comes from a battle that took place in a leek field, where Saint David advised his compatriots to wear a leek to distinguish them from their assailants.
